NATURE MAKES BOURBON,
SOMETHING WE’VE NEVER FORGOTTEN.

Without the fresh water and rich soil of Appalachia, Jacob Beam never could have distilled our first batch. Today, the land we call home needs us more than ever. Here are a few ways we conserve, restore and protect.

01

CREATING A WATERSHED MOMENT FOR KENTUCKY STREAMS, SPRINGS AND LAKES.

When it comes to making bourbon, every drop of mineral rich, limestone filtered water matters. That’s why we’re reducing the amount we use and protecting the watershed that provides it. So far, we’ve cut back by 35 million gallons every month. That’s enough to fill well over 650,000 barrels. We also set up Natural Water Sanctuaries in the Bernheim Research Arboretum & Research Forest to protect water sources for our whiskey and community.

02

CONSERVING RESOURCES FOR OUR NINTH, TENTH AND GENERATIONS TO COME.

We’re committed to achieving net zero greenhouse gas emissions. Our Kentucky distilleries purchase 100% renewable electricity through Renewable Electricity Certificates, our Fred B. Noe Distillery installed an electric boiler that can power the facility using 100% renewable energy, and our Booker Noe Distillery will be converting spent grains into renewable natural gas and a natural fertilizer to reduce our overall greenhouse gas emissions by about 50% and help local farms to advance their regenerative agricultural practices.

03

PROTECTING OUR HOME DOWN TO THE LABEL ON OUR BOTTLES.

With 93% of our packaging already recyclable, we’re looking toward the last bit. Our whiskey’s labels and bottles are designed to reduce materials and make them easier to recycle. And we’ve set a goal to reach 100% recyclable packaging by 2030.

04

RESTORING THE RESOURCES THAT GIVE US SO MUCH.

We’re working toward planting more American White Oak trees than we use for our barrels. We’re also supporting regenerative agricultural practices with our grain growers, helping restore the soil and protect biodiversity. Our latest pilot program created 1,000 acres of biologic zero farmland, providing the land with natural sources of nutrients to cut back on supplemental fertilizers.
